Orpheus, God of Music, searches for his wife, Eurydice, who has died of a snakebite and resides in the Underworld. Orpheus strikes a deal with Pluto; he may take Eurydice back to Earth if he can lead her out without looking at her. Orpheus, struck by doubt, looks back at his wife, who is then lost to him forevermore. Walking the world of the living once again, Orpheus is beset by tempting Thracians, men of sin, who grow angry with Orpheus when he does not give into their invitation of worldly delights such as wine and whores. The Thracians kill Orpheus, who is then able to be with his wife forever in death, eternally strolling through the splendor of Elysian Fields.
